Dye Free Cookies for Valentine's Day

These sugar cookies are chewy and delicious with a strawberry cream cheese frosting making them the perfect treat for Valentine's Day!

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup salted butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder

Fosting

  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, room temperature
  • 1 ounce freeze dried strawberries
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5-6 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbs milk (as needed for thinning forsting)

Instructions
 

  • In a stand mixer, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add in milk, eggs and vanilla extract and beat until well combined.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, mix dry ingredients together.
  • Add dry ingredients to the sugar and butter mixture a little at a time, mixing in between each addition until a ball of dough forms.
  • Lightly dust your workspace with flour. Use a rolling pin to roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use heart shaped (or any desired shape) cookie cutter to cut out cookies.
  • Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for about 10-11 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let cool on wire rack. You want cookies to be completely cooled before you put the frosting on them.

Frosting

  • In a stand mixer with the whisk attachment, beat the cream cheese and butter
  • Add in the vanilla extract
  • In a food processor or blender, blend freeze dried strawberries into a powder
  • Add half of the powdered sugar to butter and cream cheese mixture, beat well
  • Beat in the strawberry powder and beat well
  • Add in the rest of the powdered sugar. Add 1-2 tablespoons of milk as needed to thin out frosting if it seems to thick
  • Apply frosting to cookies and enjoy!
